My Faves – January 25, 2010

As I am working through the hundreds of wedding photos for Kimberly & Dusty, I thought I would start what I hope to be a somewhat regular post on my blog for all my wonderful readers. I got this idea from one of my all-time favorite wedding photographers, Jasmine Star, has a regular post called kisses & disses where she talks about the things she likes and dislikes.  I thought it would be fun to start sharing some of my favorite things that you may or may not heard about (not necessarily related to photography).  Next up was finding a cute title for this hopefully regular post. Do you know what I came up with? Nothing! Friday Faves was my only idea, but I knew I wouldn’t be organized to always do this on a Friday so I am thinking the name needs to not have a day of the week in the title.  If you think of a great name, please let me know by leaving me a comment or sending me an email!

I hope you find some or all of this information useful and please keep coming back for additional posts just like this one, just hopefully with a better title, LOL!  So, to get on with my list for today….

1. Google Reader - Now, this first favorite is probably something that many of you have heard of or even use but if not, let me introduce you to a major timesaver.  Google Reader allows you to read all of your favorite web updates/blog posts from one location. Once you have a Google username, you then can add various blogs and websites to your “reader” and when the blog or website updates their site, Google reader will show you the updates without having to click the actual website. You can use Google Reader for not only blogs, but stores or recipe sites or anything that updates it’s “feed” on a regular basis.  My Google Reader contains not only various blogs, but also store sale fliers like Hobby Lobby, etc… Google Reader makes it super easy to read all of your blogs at once without needing to click from one to the next. It also remembers which posts you read and didn’t read. You can add/delete feeds as you wish. And, the best part is that you can read Google Reader through your phone (if you have a smartphone like a blackberry, iphone, etc…) with internet access. Google Reader makes waiting in a long line at the post office enjoyable and not unbearable.

2. Crockpot365 - This is the most fabulous website if you are the main cook of the house and you are often lacking in time (as I feel like I  am -  especially during sports seasons). This website has some of the most delicious recipes, all of which are made using a crock pot. There are of course main dishes, but also many desserts, dips, etc.  It is such a timesaver when I know I have a crazy hectic day before me and I want my kids to eat a healthy dinner at home instead of quick takeout.

3. Etsy - Awww….. one of my very favorite websites. Etsy is a marketplace for handmade goods and one of my favorite places to buy clothes for my daughter as well as fun things like gifts, stationary, home decor, etc.  Etsy works kind of like eBay except there is no bidding on an item – you purchase the item for a specific price and while some items are ready to ship, others are made to your specifications. There is SO much offered on Etsy that I could spend days on there!

4. Tally Foodie - One thing we love to do is head down to Tallahassee to go out to one of the restaurants there. But, most of the time we have three little rugrats with us and we are limited to child friendly establishments. But, when we do have a date night, I always want to try somewhere new, yet I wish I knew more about the restaurants around there. I found this blog by accident and we have a date night coming up soon with some friends and I think this will make our selection a bit easier.

5.  Thomasville Townie - And for all of the local happenings, I turn to the Thomasville Townie blog for what is going on right here. This is a great place to add to your Google Reader and keep up to date on what is happening in Thomasville.

6. My Funky Camera - I have had a lot of people ask where I got my cute camera straps and this is the place. They are very sturdy and there are so many cute designs to choose from. I now have switched one of my cameras to a canon-pro strap with lots of padding for long events and weddings, but these cute and stylish straps are my favorite.

I hope you enjoyed the first installment of my faves. Let me know what you think about this post or future posts like this as well as any fabulous name ideas you have. Happy Monday!

Another Birthday Boy [Thomasville, GA Baby Photographer]

I first met this cutie a few months ago for a family session and now it was time for his one year birthday photoshoot. He arrived with a bottle of milk and a shy smile for me. At first, he was fascinated with his stroller and since he is a new walker, he wanted to push it up the sidewalk. All these new walkers love that newfound independence and pushing a stroller is so much fun. So, the stroller was put away and the smiles started pouring out. He was the easiest first birthday session and he smiled every minute! It was hard to pick out just a few to show but I think these are my favorites. The first one and the last one just melt my heart!

Kimberly’s Bridal Session [Thomasville, GA Bridal Wedding Photographer]

Finally I get to share some pictures from Kimberly’s bridal session. We originally had the session planned earlier but twice it had to be reschuled due to rain. I was starting to feel like December was one big rain storm and it was beginning to get rather depressing. Finally, toward the end of the month we saw some dry days, although the sun was not out and ready to play. Kimberly’s Mom really wanted to have a picture that she had envisioned….Kimberly on a beautiful staircase and so after a few places fell through, we found a great spot (with permission of course). Can anyone guess where these were taken? Ha…Ha….. I am sure anyone in Thomasville knows that answer to that!

After some pictures outside, we headed indoors and Kimberly looked gorgeous from the first to the very last picture. I have been teasing her for years how photogenic she is and one glance at the pictures confirms that. Having the bridal session was not only fun, but a great way to focus on Kimberly and her gorgeous dress. Thanks Kimberly and Elizabeth for a great bridal session!

Kimberly + Dustin: The Day After [Thomasville, GA Wedding Photographer]

This past Saturday I shot the wedding of Kimberly and Dustin, the super cute couple that you may remember from last spring when I did their engagement pictures in front of some fun and funky colored walls. This couple looked gorgeous on their wedding day and I had a blast capturing their special day. The only downer was that it rained. And rained. And rained. It rained from the moment I got there right on through the reception. I knew how much Kimberly was looking forward to pictures outside and so I offered to take some pictures of them the following day and she accepted my offer. I love how gorgeous her dress was – an off white lacy vintage dress full of delicate lace and beading. It was the perfect dress for her and I love how romantic and somewhat vintage these pictures look.

I was actually planning on posting images from Kimberly’s bridal session today but since she is leaving on her honeymoon today, I promised her I would post a little peek of our session yesterday so she had something to see before she left. I still have all the pictures to edit from the actual wedding and there are tons….. Watch for the bridal session pictures later this week and Congratulations Kimberly and Dustin and I hope you enjoy skiing!
