STOCK PHOTOGRAPHY & BEING A MODEL
What is Stock Photography?
Stock photography is the business of taking photos that can be sold and used for various purposes by different people and businesses. After the pictures are taken, they are uploaded and sold on multiple stock photography websites, where they can be purchased and used for things like websites, advertisements, products, and more. When I have time, I shoot and sell photographs, and I occasionally use models for these stock shoots.
WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO BE A STOCK MODEL FOR ME?
Being a stock model for me means you agree to let me take photos of you that can be sold as stock images. To do this, you'll need to sign two model releases: one for my business and one specifically for stock photography. Signing these releases allows your images to be sold, but it does not guarantee that they will be used or sold.
WHERE COULD YOUR IMAGES END UP?
Your images could be used in many places, such as websites, banners, products, packaging, and more. For example, I've seen my images on product listings on Amazon and Home Depot, real estate websites, and even on product packaging like headphones. My son’s photo is used on a dental website to show straight teeth.
IMPORTANT THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT BEING A STOCK MODEL
Your images will not be used for anything derogatory, defamatory, or harmful. Stock photo sites, like Shutterstock, Adobe Stock, and Getty Images, have strict guidelines to prevent misuse. For example, images cannot be used in a way that suggests endorsement of a product or service without permission, and they cannot be used in a way that is pornographic, obscene, or illegal. When signing the stock release, a witness who is 18 or older must be present. If you are under 21, a parent or guardian must also sign the release, along with another witness who is 18 or older.
