For outdoor sessions, we schedule clients to maximize the best light of the day. In order to get the best light possible, most sessions are shot about 1-1.5 hours after sunrise or 1.5 hours before sunset. These starts time may change to an earlier start if you have a senior and are choosing one of the longer senior session times. Also, the session times change based on the time of year and also by location. Locations with lots of shade can work for longer periods of the day. For studio sessions shot indoors, these can be taken at anytime during the day. Babies and small children generally tend to do best in the morning hours or early afternoon after naps.
Sessions last approximately 45-60 minutes for the average session but it may be longer or shorter depending on the type of session and ages of those photographed. Newborn sessions generally last anywhere from 1.5 to 2.5 hours and most other baby sessions last 30-45 minutes (those babies tell us when they are done).
There are many great locations in the Thomasville area for your portraits. If you want to take them in a public location, you can find a lot of greenery at Cherokee Lake (also has bridges, the rose garden, a gazebo and playground), McIntyre Park, and Paradise park. All Saints Church is another beautiful option with wrought iron gates, a gazebo, steps, and beautiful grounds. Please note that All Saints has asked for photographers to not shoot inside the gated fountain area out of respect for those buried there so we do abide by that request. Pebble Hill Plantation is another popular location. Please note that they charge a $40 photographer fee and $5/adult, $2/child entrance fee for those photographed and those fees are the client's responsibility. Your home or maybe a piece of land you have access to or can borrow from a friend may be the best solution. Last of all, downtown Thomasville is a great location to shoot in and it allows us to capture a little piece of Thomasville in your portraits.
